Looking Forward to 2012 in Prince George
The other day I was at Costco paying for my purchase and the clerk said, “Can I have your ID?” (that was typical, so I didn’t think much of it). He smiled and then said, “I thought it was you, I follow you!”
I loved it.
Not because he followed me on Twitter…although that was nice… but because social media in Prince George is becoming a way we can connect and amplify the community feeling.
As I reflect back on 2011, one of my favorite things as a business coach and social media strategist is connecting with more of the people in Prince George.
I know that it has made a huge difference in the way I see this city. It has rooted me (and my family) into the joys of winter and into the creative energy and the love people have for the city. And, as the Universal law would have it, what you focus on expands…
I have loved getting to know the stories rooted in the people of Prince George. The more I search, the more I am finding.
The conversation trends that happened on Twitter through the hashtags: #iheartPG and #princegeorge were ways for all of us to keep tabs on things relevant to our city.
It is through what we shared in these two streams, and also on Facebook pages of businesses and friends we have in town, that we were able to stay connected and “meet” and learn about people we may not have had connected with in our daily lives.
As the internet becomes more social, we will have more “tools” in our tool belts to connect with people both locally and globally.
What excites me about 2012 is that the tipping point that Prince George has been sitting on for the last year will actually tip into a flow where hopefully all businesses start to see the value and importance social media plays in connecting to their clients and community.
Looking forward to 2012… another year closer to the 2015 Winter Games.
Best,
Shauna

As a thank you gift for taking the time to do this, I have included in the a link to audio, “What to do on Twitter, when you don’t know what you want to be”, this was one of the audios found in the business Tweety Course. I hope you enjoy it. It will be available until Jan 31, 2012. Click here to get the link.
